A little bit about me
I’ve always lived with my head in the clouds, daydreaming about adventures in Narnia or how I’d enjoy befriending a vegetarian vampire. And now I feel like one of the luckiest people alive because I get to do the same thing as an adult. I can still live in the clouds, make up stories and go on imaginary adventures. Basically I have never grown up!
Born in Lancashire to a Polish mum and English dad, I spent some of the first twelve years of my life in different countries. I learnt to walk in South Africa, roller-skate in Florida and synchronise swim in Hawaii. Dad was a scientist, studying tiny bugs found in the sea, and my mum, sister and I followed him from place to place. Then during my teenage years we stayed in Lancaster. As we were no longer travelling, I was finally allowed a pet. I’ve always been passionate about animals and I begged and begged for a pet I could cuddle, teach tricks and take for walks. They gave me a stick insect! After secondary school and a year as a nanny in America, I moved to Bristol and studied English literature and teacher training. I was a primary school teacher for a number of years, which was the ideal job for someone who didn’t want to grow up.
Now I write full time and live in Somerset with my adrenalin-junkie family and soppy dog. I work in my very own writing room surrounded by books, pictures and bunting. I am definitely living my dream.
